Who We Are

We are women of faith who have chosen to live out our lives within the community of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael. Together we look to the gospel for the inspiration and primary pattern of our Christian life, to Dominic and Catherine of Siena as companions and guides on our Dominican path and to one another for support in our fidelity to this way of life. Dominic was drawn to a ministry and style of life which mirrored that of Jesus and the apostles. For Dominic the ministry of preaching the good news of the gospel went hand in hand with a simple apostolic life. Readiness to move in response to the needs of people hungry for God's Word was for Dominic essential to this apostolic way of life, as was the commitment to contemplation of the Word in prayer and reflective study.

The particular gift or charism of preaching, given to Dominic and his sons and daughters throughout the centuries, continues to be the core of our Dominican life and ministry. To be a Dominican is a call to be a preacher. A preacher is someone entrusted with God's Word for others, someone who is compelled to speak the word of truth, love, mercy and justice which she has recieved in Jesus Christ.
