Earth Charter

Chapter 2006

At our Chapter (the congregation's highest governing authority, meeting as an assembly of the sisters to discuss and define matters pertaining to the good of the congregation and to set directions) in June 2006 we joined with millions of people around the world, in endorsing the Earth Charter.

The Earth Charter is "a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society for the 21st century." We believe that the principles of this charter address Gospel values, as well as carry out our Mission and Vision Statements. As we consider the spiritual, economic, ecological and human crisies afflicting the planet, we believe, now more than ever, of the importance of addressing this critical need of our time, and of future times. These crisies are rooted in a perception that humans are separate from and dominant over all of creation. Therefore, as Preachers of the Gospel, we believer that every preaching moment must foster a mutually enhancing relationship between theEarth and human beings.
