Heath Care

Continuing the healing ministry of Jesus, sisters serve in health care primarily in hospitals in California and Nevada.

Sr. Sally Brady, Chaplain at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital:

"The call to minister as a chaplain in a clinical setting has been clear. I know that God has directed me to this service; nearly every day there are signs of that call. I do my best to offer supportive listening, to be attentive and non-judgmental, but most of all to show I really care about the patient and his or her family. Ultimately it is healing for a person to feel compassion, understanding and acceptance."

Sr. Abby Newton, Vice President for Mission Services at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton:

"The legacy of the Dominican Sisters in Stockton dates back to 1875 when Father William O'Connor invited the Sisters to staff St. Agnes Academy. It is a privilege to be the latest in a LONG line of Sisters ministering in the valley for 130 years. The visual image I have for my work is that of a braid--each strand of hair is woven back to the center. Such is this ministry--to be a presence with and for employees, volunteers, physicians and the community that reminds/speaks to the need to return to our center, our commitment to transforming attitudes and systems that deprive any person of dignity."
