Preaching from the Pulpit of Our Lives

Stories Seldom Heard

Sharing in the ministry of Jesus by virtue of our baptism, our lives are grounded in and animated by the Scriptures. As members of the Order of Preachers we are called to be aware of the opportunities to preach the good news, and to develop our God-given abilities.

Focusing on "the critical issues of our times" and pondering Scripture in silence and in community dialogue, preachers are continually shaped by the hand of God. Sister Patricia Bruno, our Promoter of Preaching collaborates with seven other regional representatives of Dominican Promoters of Preaching. With prayer, study, and conversation at an annual meeting the group seeks to influence effective preaching throughout the Dominican family in the U.S. Since, action on behalf of justice is a "constitutive dimension" of our preaching mission, (Justice in the World, Synod of Bishops, Nov. 1971), Promoters of Preaching meet each year with the Dominican Promoters of Justice to prioritize and focus plans, and to encourage preaching in a contemporary context.
